You stated the hole in the exhaust pipe at the bottom is factory, if it is a double walled pipe. I did try to stick some baling wire in hole, but it didn't go, double walled it is. However, I think I am getting some exhaust leaking out of it. Might the inner pipe be compromised somewhere else inside?... It is pretty common for an older original pipe to rot the inner wall right up near the cyl. Mine did just that. You would never have guessed the inner was as bad as it was as the outer pipe was in awesome condition. I ended up replacing it and fabbing up the rest of my system. G Man |

You can also get your exhaust gakget from Mikes XS. The XS650 ones are the same as for the SR500.
Solo2racr, When are you going to start bending up some stainless headers?

As soon as I get a different set of dies for my bender. The 7"rad., 1.5" tube set I have works fine for rollcages but not for exhaust.

Well isn't that lovely... Well, I reckon I'll have to get a head pipe too... Can most exhaust guys fabricate what I need? Do I need to order an exact fit? How much is too much for the local guy?

Local exhaust places for cars can not do what you will be needing. My post on the bottom of the first page is what I would do. If the inner pipe is leaking into the outer pipe, there isn't much to be done with it. New exhaust gaskets can be had from Yamaha dealers or from ThumperStuff.com. If the inner header pipe is crap and you are looking for a new megaphone muffler, I would look to get a whole new system. I built mine from scratch so I can't help on what is a good choice. I'm sure others on here can chime in and help with that. |
