When I rebuild an egine that has a lot of mile on it I always replace the oil pump rotors. I have yet to see a set of servicable rotors in any of the old motors I have pulled down. the rest of the oil pump has always been ok, however it is posible for the crankcase where the inner rotor set rubs on it too become bably scored. If it was really, really bad it would effectivly trash the crankcases, but I have not seen one that bad, YET!
A second hand oil pump would almost certainly require new rotors.

Here's a diagram of the XT/TT system. Might help you to understand. Can't find a decent one for the SR sorry. SR

Thanks guys, im going to pull the pump today and have a look at it, looks like if i need new rotors ill have to order them from the usa, wich is a pain but cant be helped, i think the scavenge pump not scavengeing can be the only reason now for the engines trouble.

You need to check that the pump mating surfaces are flat. There is a Yamaha service bulletin about it. PM me your e-mail and I'll send it to you. I haven't worked out how to post PDF documents on here yet! Hang on, see if this works.....

Guy's every part for these bikes are available new at ANY Yamaha dealership in the WORLD, and no more than 3 weeks wait anywhere in the world, anywhere, or, change the shop you do business with, Stew Ross has bought all the rebuild parts for the oil pump off me before, but then I keep 5 engines full of EVERY part on shelf anyway, KEDO in germany even have a high volume pump on the shelf for a cheap price. the sprocket nut new is about $9 australian, or about 4 quid, 6 euro's, again, Kedo I think sell them for even cheaper!!

well i just took it for a spin down the lane, it starts ok, idles beutifully no more blue smoke and the oils getting back to the tank , but its running like a dog when you open the throttle. i assume its the carb, since i have no experince of theses engines done realy no what a healthy one sounds like.
