Hey everyone: Does anyone have experience fitting a more "cafe" styled tank from another make and model to an SR, as opposed to going the aftermarket route (e.g., daytona, vd-classic, etc.)? I'm basically looking for a reasonably obtainable tank w/ knee indentations that with mild mods can fit the SR. RD400 Daytona? CB500? Any help would be great and appreciated. The smooth sides on the stock tank just aren't working with the aesthetic of a cafe look for me. Thanks! Gary Hopwheels

I haven't tried it myself, but I've often thought that the XS750 tank from the late '70's would make a reasonably priced option. It might fit without too much modification. I like the lines of it. Search for a pic of one on the net.

Has anyone had any success getting a Norton style tank from Daytona into the USA?
Thanks, Dave

Hi G Man: I found a couple of auctions for 750 tanks. Would the front block access to the oil filler cap do you think? How would you seal up the right petcock? I do like the lines also. Thanks. Gary Hopwheels

Ah yes... the oil fill would most likely be in the way. I figured it would bolt right up on the XS but the SR would present some challenges. That's the price we pay for a less expensive tank though. Look at Monster Garage, anything can be done with a torch and some confidence! ;D

I have seen people fit the tanks from Suzuki 450 twins to the SR's. They seem to fit fairly well as I recall.
They have knee dents of a sort and would be fairly common around the wreckers.
I may have a pic of one with the tank fitted from South Aust. It looked OK and was owned by Neil (NC) ...err someone, sorry mate... I'll look when I get back home anyway.

Yes, I've seen the same with old Suzuki twins - GSX's, from 250cc up. Thinking of putting one on the SR185....

Hey Gary the sx750 tank wont fit without some modifications , we are in the middle of doing two tanks for our trip around australia, if it works out ok we may have some done up as we will have the templets made so we should be able to get them done fairly easly . The front of the tank needs to be cut back to allow access to the oil filler it needs to be widened slightly at the rear and the seat needs to be cut back as the tank is longer. On the bright side it holds about 18 liters of fuel and looks cool , here is a pic of one with a few extra bits cut out but you get the general idea www.flyereddiesr500.citysolar.net/8weeks.html
