It takes a lot of nerve to try something different like that, and of course it looks great — how can an SR look otherwise?
To really set it off you might consider some simple coach pinstriping (maybe 1/8 inch gold with a pencil line of black) to accent the form of the tank and especially the cowl which looks from here to have unbelievable lines.
I also think a light brown seat would be a nice accent and I'd keep an eye out for spokes.
I don't know where you are (Oz? — because of the sunshine) but Drag Specialties in the U.S. sells a neat little tear-drop tail-light for $26 that would really match your headlight.
I'm glad you posted it, and like everyone else I'm hoping to see lots more detail.

I'm with big shingle - I think the tank needs some black pinstriping, and maybe a Yamaha on the side of the tank.
Very different!

What is it with bikers and badges and pinstripes? Yamaha badges? Mate, if the civilians have to have a label on it to figure out what it is, they ain't gonna appreciate anyway. Do not change this bike, it is perfect as it is. Is the frame plated or painted? the paint on the tank almost looks like the white I had on my GT falcon. Does it have a tiny touch of blue in it by any chance? Looks sweet. Mick

No no no. If it needs a logo it ought to have one that just says "iThump". Love it, especially the front disc. What's the exhaust, out of curiosity?

Thanks for the comments all, ill attempt to post some decent pics up soon. Stew, the bike is a 500. Initially I wasnt going to go with white, but it just somehow happened. Originally the bike was all black, black frame and tank, wheels, ect. I wasnt sure if all white would work, but i guess its ok. I resprayed the frame myself in silver, which i sortof regret doing as its not as good a quality as i was hoping. Looking back, i should have had someone else strip and powdercoat it. Likewise with the wheels, which i stripped, polished and painted myself with enamel. Its my first attempt at fixing up a bike, so its not perfect in any way.It looks 100% better than the junkheap it was when i got it, which was my main goal. The seat i sourced from japan, which is made to suit a longer tank. My intention was, that sometime in the future, i might change to an aluminium tank, with just a bare metal finish. Wire wheels are somthing that i wanted from the start also, but the budget didnt permit in the end. The paint on the tank is basically a plain white, high gloss finish, i think the lighting in my garage or camera flash has given it that blue tinge.
I am indeed in Sydney Aust., eventually i may change the tail light, currently its a basic single round led light(a tan coloured seat would look nice, i agree).
The front disc is off a ducati monster S4R and the caliper is a standard 4pot brembo. This was probably the most costly part of the bike. I changed the lines to braided stainless ones at the same time, front and back. The exhaust is a pretty typical supertrapp. Front headlight is a small vintage type, with a new mini tacho dropped in.
I dont really want to spend anymore money on the bike now(its ridiculous how it all adds up), if i keep going, it may get a bit obsessive. There are so many things i could change, which i havent bothered to. My only intention now is to get it running nicely with the new carb. I like the "Ithump" suggestion, now that you mention it, its starting to resemble an apple product.

you just turned a crusty black SR into a stripped and painted frame, tank, seat, SR4 disked, bike whiter than games shows hosts grin?
AND - "if i keep going, it may get a bit obsessive"
Too late mate
nice job, bring it out on a Sydney ride next time we have one - we might increase the number of SR500's ever present by 100%

I think the seat suits your bike nicely. Overall it's done quite well.

Nice bike for a first restore.Love the big disc and agree with the others that a nice pin stripe would break the solid white tank.
