An XT/TT carb is a simple gravity fed carb, a lot less complicated than the SR's stock carb with it's accelerator pump, diaphragms and assorted bits and pieces. I've used a TT carb re-jetted for years with no problems. You just have to remember to turn on the fuel petcock when you start up.

do you use a different fuel petcock? If I want to use gravity petcock with the stock carb am I going to run into problems? is there any way I can deactivate the vacuum system?

I still have the stock petcock. When I say turn the fuel "on"...I mean turn it to prime position where the fuel flows freely. I don't think the stock carb can be converted to a gravity fed type. The stock carb frustrated me so much I haven't had it on my SR for over 20 years.

All you have to do is plug the vacuum port on the stock carb and install a normal petcock. The stock carb IS gravity fed, the (lack of) vacuum just cuts off the gas when the engine isn't running.
